Viscount Astor
Viscount Astor , of Hever Castle in the County of Kent , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The Viscounts family home is Ginge Manor near Wantage in Oxfordshire .
Award
The title was created on June 23, 1917 for the American-British financier and politician William Waldorf Astor . As a member of the Astor family, he was one of the richest men in the United States , but then emigrated to the United Kingdom. There he worked to a large extent for charitable purposes.
Subordinate title
Astor had already been raised to Baron Astor , of Hever Castle in the County of Kent on January 26, 1916 . This barony is now listed as a subordinate title.
