Baron Verulam
Baron Verulam is a hereditary British title of nobility created once in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of Great Britain .
Awards
The first bestowal on July 11, 1618, the title Baron Verulam , of Verulam in the County of Hertford , was created in the Peerage of England for the statesman and philosopher Sir Francis Bacon . On January 27, 1621, he was also raised to Viscount St. Albans , also in the Peerage of England . Both titles expired with his death in 1626.
In the second bestowal on July 8, 1790, the title Baron Verulam , of Gorhambury in the County of Hertford, was created in the Peerage of Great Britain for James Grimston, 3rd Viscount Grimston . In 1773 he had inherited the titles Viscount Grimston and Baron Dunboyne from his father, which had been created for his grandfather in the Peerage of Ireland in 1719 , and also the Luckyn Baronetcy , of Little Waltham in the County of Essex , which was in the Baronetage in 1629 of England for his ancestor William Luckyn. His son the 4th Viscount was also raised to Earl of Verulam and Viscount Grimston on November 24, 1815 in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
