Vishniac Peak

The Vishniac Peak is a 2280  m high mountain in the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises 5 km southwest of Skew Peak immediately north of the head end of the Webb Glacier .

The United States Geological Survey mapped it based on its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1947 to 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1975 after the American microbiologist Wolf Vladimir Vishniac (1922–1973) from the university of Rochester , who between 1971 and 1973 carried out studies on the adsorption of water by soil particles and their effect on the resistance of microorganisms to adverse environmental conditions. Vishniac was killed in a crash on December 10, 1973 in the Asgard Range 32 km south of this mountain .
