Visor om Slutet ( Swedish : "songs from the end") is an EP by the Finnish metal band Finntroll from 2003. The band calls the recordings an EP, and the trade press occasionally also referred to it as "Mini-CD" or "Mini" -Album “usage.
Emergence
The time of the creation of the EP was marked by some setbacks for the band. Singer Jan "Katla" Jämsen fell ill with a tumor on the vocal cords and had to leave the band. In his place came Tapio Wilska , who had already appeared as a guest on the previous album and now made his debut as the band's singer. The band experienced another setback a few weeks before the EP was released. On March 16, 2003, guitarist Teemu "Somnium" Rainmoranta died when he fell drunk from a bridge into a frozen river. The album was subsequently dedicated to the deceased.
The EP was recorded in the week of February 11th to 18th, 2003 at the Hästhofmen sound studio in Helsinki and produced by Henri "Trollhorn" Sorvali. As with the previous album, Mika Jussila was responsible for the final mix in the Finnvox studio and rhythm guitarist Samuli “Skrymer” Ponsimaa was responsible for the artwork .
style
The EP differed significantly from the previous style of the band. Apart from the song Asfågelns Död , no rock or metal-typical instruments such as electric guitars or drums were used on the album . Instead, the album offers rather calm material with a strong dominance of acoustic guitars, flutes and keyboards, which largely corresponded to acoustic folk with echoes of ambient and neofolk . Samples of nature sounds (birds, frogs, insects) were also used on the album.
As on the original demo Rivfader from 1998, most of the tracks on the album are short, instrumental interludes or in / outros. Försvinn Du Som Lyser was re-recorded as a metal version a year later for the Trollhammaren EP.
