Nattfödd ( Swedish: "born in the night") is an album by the Finnish metal band Finntroll from 2004. The German magazine Metal Hammer made it one of the ten most important albums of the German magazine Metal Hammer in May 2011 as part of the five-part series History of Metal Years 2003/2004.

Recording and publication

After the personnel changes in 2003, this was the band's first album with a new line-up. In terms of recording technology, the band dared not experiment and recorded again with Henri Sorvali, this time in the Walltone studio. Again, the artwork came from rhythm guitarist Samuli "Skrymer" Ponsimaa.

The album was released as a regular CD and a colored LP .

Music genre

After the largely folk- oriented Visor om Slutet , Finntroll returned to the Jaktens Tid style and made minor changes.

The composition of the sung refrains was outstanding . On previous albums, a theme-like instrumental melody had usually been used instead of a chorus . This was accompanied by structural changes, as the song material now often included verse songs. In contrast, previously composed songs with many variations of moods and tempo had dominated.

Furthermore, the instrumentation had changed a little. A banjo was also increasingly used, and choir passages were also to be found. In addition, the electric guitar, which had previously concentrated on riffs , was used to lead the melody.

All in all, Finntroll was structurally simpler on Nattfödd , but melodically more complex.
