Visual China Group (VCG) is a leading provider of visual communication and new media in the People's Republic of China, founded in 2000 . VCG is one of the largest image licensing companies in the world. The group has more than 600 employees (2016), with subsidiaries in Beijing , Shanghai , Guangzhou , Shenzhen , Hong Kong and Taiwan . The company was the first in China to provide and sell licenses and copyrights for image material through its own online platforms. It has been listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange since 2014 .

Corporate development

VCG owns and manages China's largest premium visual digital content platform. It manages 40 million editorial images. The online licensing and copyright distribution platform creative.vcg.com distributes 30 million images and 1.25 million videos with more than 14,000 posts and hundreds of image partners worldwide, including still images, videos, music, multimedia and other digital content. The VCG operates the largest and most popular brand online communities for visual designers and photographers in China.

VCG had been selling the world's largest digital picture agency, the US-based Getty Images , on the Chinese market since 2005 and within a decade had built up a huge group with an annual turnover of 57 billion euros. Today it supplies more than 15,000 advertising agencies and media companies with photos and images of all kinds.

VCG takes over Corbis

On January 28, 2016, VCG acquired the worldwide image rights of the US stock agency Corbis Images through Unity Glory International Ltd , a company of the Visual China Group. However, the visual content has since been licensed by Getty Images outside of China and mostly titled Photograph VCG via Getty Images outside of China in the image line. With the takeover of Corbis Images by VCG and its collaboration with Getty Images, the Seattle- based photo agency has succeeded in “taking over” its worst competitor, Corbis, in no time at all. Many photographers around the world felt that their opportunities were sidelined because Getty did not allow them any further employment through freelance work.
