Vitberget is the highest mountain in the historic Swedish province of Norrbotten , which belongs to the province of Norrbotten County . Not far from the mountain is the village of Vitberget , which belongs to the municipality of Älvsbyn . The next bigger city is Vidsel .
A hiking trail leads from the village up the mountain, on which there is also an overnight hut. The path and the hut are maintained by a private association.
The mountain, which was originally called Hvitbäcken, is not far from the road 374 (the so-called Jokkmokk Road) between Piteå and Jokkmokk . The Vitbäcken river also flows through the village.
