Vitello is an impact crater in the southwest of the lunar front on the southern edge of Mare Humorum , southeast of Doppelmayer crater and east of Lee . The irregularly shaped crater rim is only slightly eroded, the crater floor shows concentric fracture structures and a central mountain .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Silesian monk and natural philosopher Witelo .
