Vivaro-Alpinisch (French: vivaro-alpin ) is an old regional variant of Occitan , which is spoken in the north-eastern part of this language region, in the northern part of the Maritime Alps . The distribution area extends to the southern part of the Dauphiné and the westernmost part of Italy. The theory that the language should be classified as a dialect of Occitan under the name Alpine Provençal is outdated.

Like the other nordokzitanischen languages ( Limousinisch , Auvergnatisch ) knows the Vivaro Alpinisch the palatalization of the consonant "k" and "g" before "a", for example in chantar (French: chanter), jauta (joue) while the Südokzitanische cantar and gauta knows.

The main characteristic consists in the omission of the intervowel dentals: monea for moneda (French: monnaie), bastia for bastida (French: bâtie).

The Rhotazism of the “l” to “r” is widespread : barma for balma (French: grotte), escora for escola (French: “école”), saraa for salada (French: “salade”).
