Vivian Dettbarn-Slaughter

Vivian Robles Dettbarn-Slaughter (born November 3, 1955 in Santa Barbara / California ) is an American singer, pianist, composer and music teacher.

Dettbarn-Slaughter took singing lessons from Natalie Bodanya , piano lessons from Peter Yazbeck and Mildred Couper and harpsichord lessons from John Gillespie at the Music Academy of the West . She also took singing lessons from Beverly Hay , Sharon Papian , Birgit Nilsson , John Wustman , Martial Singher , Grant Wenaus , Christine Schadeburg and Robert Behan . She received a bachelor's degree in piano from the University of California Santa Barbara, a master's degree in music education from Appalachian State University, and a doctorate in church music from the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana. This was followed by postgraduate studies in singing and music history at the University of Memphis .

She headed the Music Department at Adrian College , taught at Appalachian State University , Memphis State University and Cannon Music Camp, and has been a music lecturer at the University of Findlay since 2007 . She served as music director with the Adrian Dominican Sisters in Michigan, as organist and director of youth music at the First Presbyterian Church in Adrian and various other churches in California, Tennessee and North Carolina. As a pianist Dettbarn-Slaughter has appeared in the USA, Canada and Europe, as a singer she has participated in opera performances and gave concert evenings with orchestras and as a song singer. Their choral works were performed at Alliance Publications, Inc. published. Her son is the flautist Ryan Dettbarn .
