Vizzavona is a small village (2010: 10 inhabitants) in the Haute-Corse department of the French island of Corsica . Politically, the hamlet belongs to the municipality of Vivario . The place is on the bank of the Vecchio River . This is where the GR 20 long-distance hiking trail and the Corsican Railway meet, making it easy to access the most difficult hiking trail in France. The hikers passing through can easily get provisions in the village . The building of the highest station of the Corsican Railway at 906  m can be used by hikers as a shelter and emergency shelter. The station master also ran a small restaurant in 2010.

The Col de Vizzavona , named after him , is the most traveled mountain pass in Corsica to the southwest of the village .

The railway crosses under the pass in Vizzavona tunnel , the longest tunnel of a narrow-gauge railway in France. It is 3,016 m long and starts right at the southwest exit of the station. It was inaugurated on the centenary of the French Revolution on July 14, 1889. The over 100 meter high railway viaduct , built by Gustave Eiffel , is also worth seeing.
