Vladimír Jiránek

Vladimír Jiránek (born June 6, 1938 in Hradec Králové , † November 6, 2012 in Prague ) was a Czech caricaturist, illustrator and director of animated films. He became famous with the cartoon series Pat and Mat and Bob and Bobby - Rabbits from a Magic Hat .

Life

He attended high school. Since 1956 he lived in Prague. In 1962 he graduated from the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague to study journalism. After graduation, he began publishing his cartoons. Especially after the Velvet Revolution in 1989 he became known for his political caricatures. With his short film What have we done to the hens? he entered the Berlinale in 1978 .

Honors

  • The asteroid Jiránek , discovered in 1997, was named after him.
  • Czech Merit Medal - 2005.
  • The "White Monkey" 2009 - Award of the Czech Cartoonists Association.
