Pat and Mat is a Czechoslovak, then Czech puppet series. The series currently has 117 episodes in 9 seasons and 8 mini-episodes, in addition to which three movies have appeared on the series. 13 more episodes are in production.
content
The series is about two neighbors who are confronted with a problem and try to solve it with tools and building materials. This always leads to further complications. At some point, however, the two of them often still manage to produce a satisfactory result with a highly unusual and inefficient solution.
According to the authors, it is the manual awkwardness that excites in these stories. The special thing about the series is not only the humor, but also the optimistic attitude towards life. The two puppet figures always get into tricky situations, but never give up until they have creatively solved the problem.
Production and publication
Pat and Mat first appear in the 1976 short film The Renovators (Originally Kuťáci ). Later other short films of about 7 to 8 minutes in length appeared in the series ... and that's it! (In the original: ... a je to! ), Where the two got their final appearance. In 1989 the two do-it-yourselfers Pat and Mat were christened, which also became the new name of the series. Petr Skoumal's music consists almost entirely of the title melody and harmonica music . After the opening of the Iron Curtain , Lubomír Beneš founded his own aiF studio in Prague and Zurich in 1990 (marketing, sales, financing). There he and his team produced 14 more episodes and brought all 49 to the international market.
In addition to Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic and Slovakia ), the series was also released in Poland , Austria , Germany , Switzerland , Brazil , Finland , the Netherlands , Slovenia , Norway and Iran .
