Vladimir Kovačić (born March 6, 1950 ) is a former Yugoslav football player . The goalkeeper played a large part of his career in Germany .

Athletic career

Kovačić began his adult career at Dinamo Zagreb . There he was, however, for a long time in the shadow of goalkeeper Fahrija Dautbegović , whom he only had to represent occasionally. In 1974 he moved to the Bundesliga to act as the second goalkeeper behind Rudi Kargus . After making his debut in the top German division in the 1974/75 season on the occasion of the 4-0 away win at Wuppertaler SV in April 1975, he had to wait until January 1977 before he was allowed to play again for the injured goalkeeper in the elite series. As a “bench press”, he provided the team with moral support when they won the Cup in 1976 and the European Cup the following year.

In 1977 Kovačić accepted an offer from Wuppertaler SV, who had now been relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga . There he ousted Fritz Stefens between the posts and established himself as a regular goalkeeper. After just missing out on promotion last year as third in the table, he only achieved a midfield position with the team around Bernhard Hermes , Helmut Lausen and Günter Pröpper in the northern relay. As a result, the club slipped further, at the end of the 1979/80 season, relegation was bottom of the table in the Oberliga West.

Nothing is known about the further development of Kovačić's career.
