The coal power plant Schwandorf (also Kraftwerk Schwandorf , power plant Dachelhofen , Bayernwerk or power plant "Else" called) was a brown coal power station in the district Dachelhofen the city Schwandorf in the Upper Palatinate . The plant, built in 1930, was shut down in 2002 and demolished until 2005.

Until 1982, the fuel was transported by rail from the open-cast mines in the nearby Upper Palatinate district near Wackersdorf and Steinberg am See . After the stocks there were exhausted, the coal for the remaining operating years came from the Czech Republic . It was switched to hard lignite.

The cooling tower of the power plant burned out on May 12, 2003 as a result of welding work during the demolition. The power plant with its two chimneys each 235 meters high was blown up on February 18, 2005. Only the switchgear is still in operation as a 380/110 kV substation .
