Marie Vojtěcha Antonie Hasmandová (SCB), also Marie Vojtěcha Hasmandová (* born as Antonie Hasmandová on March 25, 1914 in Hustienowitz (today Huštěnovice); † January 21, 1988 in Znojmo-Hradiště ) was Superior General of the Sisters of Mercy from 1970 to 1988 Borromean Sisters) . After a high treason trial , she was imprisoned for eight years in 1953. Vojtěcha Hasmandová has been a blessed member of the Catholic Church since 2014 .

Life

Antonie Hasmandová entered the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy in Prague in 1927 at the age of thirteen and took the religious name “Sister Vojtěcha” (Adalberta). She became a nurse and cared for soldiers and wounded during the Second World War .

In 1952 Hasmandová was imprisoned for hiding a Franciscan . After a show trial , she was sentenced to eight years in prison and was not released until 1960.

Ten years later Hasmandová was appointed Superior General of the Sisters of Mercy. She contracted tuberculosis in 1987 and died after suffering for a year.

On December 7th, 2014 "matka" Vojtěcha ( Czech for mother) was beatified by Pope Francis .
