Volcan Compañía Minera is a Peruvian mining company that operates several lead / zinc mines . In 2015, 284,900 t zinc, 59,600 t lead and 700 t silver (by-product) were mined.

history

The Volcan Compañía Minera was founded in 1943 and for decades supplied ore to the Mahr Túnel concentrator of the Cerro de Pasco Corporation . In 1997 the Volcan Compañía Minera auctioned the opencast mines Mahr Túnel , Andaychagua and San Cristóbal from the state-owned Centromin Peru. In 2000, Volcan took over the Animón and Vinchos opencast mines . The Zoraida and El Pilar opencast mines were added later .

The majority shareholder of Volcan Compañía Minera has been the Swiss company Glencore , which holds 55.03% of Volcan shares, since November 2017 .

As of 2019, the company owns the Yauli Mining Complex , Chungar Mining Unit . In November 2019, Volcan sold all of its mining and processing activities in Cerro de Pasco to the Canadian company Cerro de Pasco Resources (CDPR).

The company also operates the Baños I – V hydropower plants with a total output of 43 MW and plans to expand the Tingo power plant to 10 MW. A 20 MW power plant is currently (2015) being built in Rucuy.
