Volkan Baran

Volkan Baran (* 12. August 1978 in Luenen ) is a German politician of the SPD and since 2017 a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Life

After completing secondary school in 1994 at the Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule Lünen , Baran completed an apprenticeship as a mining mechanic at the Haus Aden / Monopol colliery , which he completed in 1997. He then worked as a locksmith until 2002 and also acted as a youth representative and shop steward for IG Bergbau . From 2002 to 2004 he did his basic military service at a Bundeswehr location in the Teutoburg Forest.

From 2004 to 2012 Baran worked at EWZ in Dortmund , a private institution for career counseling and job placement for young people with a migration background. Since 2012 he has been employed as Diversity Manager at the Dortmund public utility company (DSW21); the employment relationship has been suspended since he joined the state parliament in 2017.

Baran has been a member of IG BCE since 1994 and of the ver.di union since 2015 . E.

Political party

Baran joined the SPD in 2003 and was a board member in the SPD sub-district of Dortmund from 2005 to 2016. From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the Foreigners' Advisory Council, from 2009 to 2017 a member of the Dortmund City Council and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

MP

In the state elections in May 2017 , he was elected to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia as a direct candidate for the SPD via constituency 112 (Dortmund II) . He won the direct mandate with 39.1% of the first votes . In the state parliament he is a member of the budget and finance committee as well as the committee for economy, energy and regional planning.

Private

Volkan Baran is married and has two children.
