Volker Hinniger Prize
The Volker Hinniger Prize is an art prize from the city of Bamberg . It has been awarded every two years since 1992 and every three years since 2002 to young artists or groups of artists working closely together by an expert jury; a personal application is not possible. The award ceremony takes place in public and is usually accompanied by an exhibition in the Bamberg city gallery Villa Dessauer. The prize was donated in 1990 by Gretel Hinniger , mother of the Bamberg painter Volker Hinniger, who died in an accident in 1988 . The prize is intended to promote young artists. According to the foundation statutes, the prize is awarded to a young artist who may not be older than 41 at the time of the award ceremony. The price is limited to the fine arts only. The amount of the prize money is calculated from the income from the gift capital. The 2020 prize money is € 3,000.
