Volker Assing

Volker Matthias Assing (born November 24, 1956 in Horsten (today Bad Nenndorf )) is a German entomologist .

Life

Assing is the son of Focko and Sophie Assing, née Harmening. From 1984 to 1986 he was a research assistant at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover . In 1986 he became a teacher at the Käthe-Kollwitz-Schule in Hanover . In 2002 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg with a dissertation on the taxonomy, systematics, phylogeny, biogeography and ecology of Othiini THOMSON (Insecta: Coleoptera, Staphylinidae, Staphylininae) .

Assing is primarily concerned with the short-winged birds (Staphylinidae), in particular with the Aleocharinae of the Palearctic and Western Palearctic, the Xantholininae of the Palearctic, the Habrocerinae , the Steninae of the Western Palearctic and the Staphylininae of the Canary Islands , Madeira and Central Europe . Further research projects concern the ecology and faunistics of the ants of Europe as well as the ecology and bionomy of the Staphylinidae living in the soil with a special focus on their way of life, their wing development and their distribution

As author or co-author, he was involved in over 800 initial descriptions. His articles have appeared in the journals Linzer biological contributions , contributions to entomology , Entomological Problems and Zootaxa .

Assing is co-author of the works Die Käfer Mitteleuropas: Staphylinidae Exclusive Aleocharinae And Pselaphinae: Vol 4 (2012, with Michael Schülke ) and Synopsis of adventive species of Coleoptera (Insecta) recorded from Canada. Part 2: Staphylinidae (2013, with Jan Klimaszewski , Adam Brunke , David W. Langor , Alfred Francis Newton , Caroline Bourdon, Georges Pelletier, Reginald Webster, Lee H. Herman, Lucile Perdereau, Anthony Davies, Aleš Smetana, Donald S. Chandler , Christopher G. Majka and Geoffrey George Edgar Scudder ).

After Volker Assing among others, the beetles are Ampedus assingi , Pseudotachinus assingi , Cyrtoplastus assingi , Agathidium assingi , lathrobium assingi , Leptusa assingi , Tachyporus assingi , Metopsia assingi , Trechus assingi , Trichobyrrhulus assingi , Turcizyras assingi , Bradycellus assingi and Curimopsis assingi named.
