Volker Schmidt (politician)

Volker Schmidt (born April 6, 1957 in Saarbrücken ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

education and profession

After attending elementary school, grammar school and business school (1964–1974), Schmidt completed training as a nurse from 1974 to 1977. From 1978 to 1985 he worked as a medical-technical radiology assistant in the Völklingen district hospital . There he also chaired the staff council . Schmidt has been the head of a retirement and nursing home since 1985, and has also been the manager and owner of a home since 1988.

politics

Schmidt joined the SPD in 1974. Since 1975 he has been on the board of the local association Riegelsberg , of which he was chairman from 1986–1992 and 1998–2005. From 2002 to 2008 Schmidt was chairman of the Saarbrücken-Land district association and an advisory member of the state executive board and the presidium.

Schmidt was a member of the Riegelsberg municipal council until 2000 and has been a member of the Saarbrücken City Association since 1989. The Landtag of Saarland is one of Schmidt since the twelfth legislative term of (1999). There he is chairman of the committee for health and social affairs and a member of the committee for justice, constitutional and legal questions as well as electoral review

Personal

Schmidt is married and has four children. He lives in Riegelsberg.
