Volker Schneider (political scientist)

Volker Schneider (born October 16, 1952 in Blaubeuren ) is a political scientist and professor of material state theory .

Life

Volker Schneider studied business administration from 1974 to 1977 at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz and from 1977 to 1981 political and economic sciences at the Free University of Berlin . From 1979 to 1982 he studied economics at the Université de Paris VIII , from 1982 to 1986 he completed a doctorate at the European University Institute in Florence, where he received his doctorate in March 1986. Between 1986 and 1997 he was a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. He obtained his habilitation in 1995 at the social science faculty of the University of Mannheim . Since 1997 Volker Schneider has been a professor in political science and holds the chair for material state theory in the administrative science department at the University of Konstanz . Since 2013 he has been dean of the Politics - Law - Economics section at the University of Konstanz. Volker Schneider was a visiting fellow at the Annenberg School of Communications, University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 2001 and a visiting fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University in 2006 .

Volker Schneider has been married since 1978, has three children and lives in Meersburg . There he is involved in the forum for science and culture Meersburg eV

Volker Schneider conducts research in the areas of state theory , governance and complexity theory, association research, evolution of political institutions, policy research and network analysis .

Teaching

The courses offered by Volker Schneider include the subjects of “State and Democratic Theories”, “Policy Field Analysis” and “Analysis of Political Networks” as well as the subjects “Political Intermediation” and “Introduction to the Government System of the Federal Republic of Germany”.
