Volker Stephan
Volker Stephan (born August 1, 1938 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German veterinarian and politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After studying at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , Stephan passed the state examination as a veterinarian in 1961. In 1964 he received his doctorate at the Department of Biochemistry at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig with the work of studies on the various domestic animals Blutglutathiongehalt Dr. med. vet. From 1963 to 1973 he worked as a practical veterinarian in Seehausen (Altmark) . In 1973 he became head of the building hygiene department at the district veterinary institute in Stendal .
politics
Stephan joined the newly founded SDP at the end of 1989 and was elected to the Volkskammer for the SPD in the Magdeburg constituency in March 1990 . In October 1990 he was one of the 144 MPs sent to the Bundestag by the People's Chamber . In the Bundestag election in December 1990 , he ran unsuccessfully.
From 1991 to 1994 Stephan was First Alderman of the City of Stendal and from June 1994 to June 2001 Lord Mayor of Stendal.
