Volker Zahner

Volker Zahner (born December 13, 1962 in Würzburg ) is a German forest scientist in the field of wildlife ecology.

Life

Volker Zahner grew up in Lohr a. Main (“Rexroth Villa”) in the Spessart as the third child of the Zahner couple. After two years in Spain (Malaga) the family returned to the Spessart. In Munich he studied forest sciences at the Ludwig Maximilians University . After graduation, he passed the state examination and worked at the Bavarian Forest Research Institute, later the Bavarian State Institute for Forests and Forestry, in the field of forest ecology. At the same time he was doing his doctorate at the Technical University of Munich on the topic of the influence of the beaver on alluvial forests. In 2002 he was appointed professor of zoology and wildlife ecology at the Weihenstephan Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. At the Faculty of Forest and Forestry he was a. a. active as dean of studies, dean and vice dean. He maintains international cooperation v. a. with Finland, Norway and Romania.

Memberships

Volker Zahner is a member of several committees, including the board of trustees of the Heinz Sielmann Foundation , member of the Bavarian Nature Conservation Fund, member of the highest Bavarian nature conservation advisory board, member of the scientific advisory board of the Bavarian Ornithological Society and spokesman for the scientific advisory board of the State Association for Bird Protection. As a short-term expert , he also worked internationally for the EU in the Natura 2000 area .
