After the fall of Bertold's son Heinrich von Schweinfurt , the royal courts in Rangau , Volkfeld and Radenzgau formed the core of the property of the newly founded diocese of Bamberg .
The core of the Volkfeldgau was the Steigerwald foreland around the river Volkach , which flows into the Main at the town of the same name. The actual namesake is the Vollburg, a striking Steigerwaldberg near which the Volkach spring is located.
