Volksbank Müllheim was founded in 1874 from the establishment of an advance payment association by 39 citizens from Müllheim and the surrounding area. At the end of the first financial year in 1874, the balance sheet total was 51,809 marks. In 1931, the legal form of the advance payment association was changed (registered cooperative with limited liability). The company name changed in 1939 to Volksbank Müllheim-Badenweiler eG. At the end of the 19th century, in the course of the next few decades, other localities in the Markgräflerland established their own credit associations as well as savings and loan banks. These merged in 1972 to form Raiffeisenbank Ehebachtal. In 1971, Volksbank Müllheim-Badenweiler eG merged with Spar- und Kreditbank Neuenburg. In 1992 there was another merger between Volksbank Müllheim-Badenweiler and Raiffeisenbank Ehebachtal to form Volksbank Müllheim.
