The Volksbank Erle eG is a cooperative bank with headquarters in alder . The regional bank, founded in 1887, belongs to the Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks .

history

In 1887, the Erler Savings and Loan Fund started operations in the Menting house.

On August 28, 1887, 55 Erler, including farmers, craftsmen and merchants, founded the Erler savings and loan association eGmuH. The initiative came from Pastor Nonhoff and his chaplain, who later became dean Peter Karthaus. Immediately after the foundation, the members met for the first general assembly. The first board of directors and administrative board (today the supervisory board ) was elected. Following the example of the rural cooperative idea of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen , the members wanted to support each other in difficult economic situations with self-help, self-responsibility and self-administration.

The first business premises were in the house of the brickworks owner Wilhelm Menting. The founders also chose Wilhelm Menting as their first investor. From 1887 to 1931 he still ran the business on a voluntary basis.

In 1931 Hubert Menting took over the duties of his late father's rendant. Since the financial transactions became more extensive, Hubert Menting was now working full-time. At the same time, the ticket office was moved to the village, in a room in the Schneemann restaurant.

The first bank building of its own was put into operation in 1966 on Silvesterstraße.

The Second World War caused a turning point in the bank's development. Hubert Menting was called up for military service in 1944, so that he had to temporarily hand over management back to the board of directors. Last but not least, the Schneemann house was destroyed in 1945. Until it was restored, the cash register was housed in the Heßling-Funke house. With the currency reform , the members made a fresh start and left the collapse behind. On the day of the currency reform, the savings and loan fund administered 1,364,212 Reichsmark deposits, which melted to 118,642 DM after the currency changeover.

When the fund celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1962, it had total assets of DM 1.7 million and around 220 members were shareholders of the company.

The first own bank building was put into operation on October 5, 1966 at Silvesterstraße 1. Before that, from 1958 to 1966 the Terhedebrugge house served as the domicile of the cash register. Furthermore, the form of liability was changed in 1966. The unlimited became the limited liability. The name change to “Volksbank Erle eG” in 1974 was initiated by resolution of the General Assembly.

The current bank building was moved into in the year of the 100th anniversary. In 2012 Volksbank Erle eG celebrated its 125th anniversary with 2,225 members.
