history

In Magdeburg on March 27, 1916 the "Cooperative Magdeburg Home Owners for the Procurement and Securing of Mortgages eGmbH" was founded. On September 18, 1916, the entry in the cooperative register was made under the number "8Gen.R.106". The bank has been renamed several times in its history and expanded through mergers with other cooperative banks.

From 1925 it operated as the Bank für Handel und Grundbesitz Magdeburg eGmbH , from 1941 as Volksbank Magdeburg eGmbH and from 1946 as Bank für Handwerk und Gewerbe Magdeburg eGmbH . In 1965 there was a merger with the Bank für Handwerk und Gewerbe eGmbH Niederndodeleben. In 1970 the name was changed to Genossenschaftsbank für Handwerk und Gewerbe Magdeburg , in 1974 it was renamed Genossenschaftsbank für Handwerk und Gewerbe in the GDR, Magdeburg and finally in 1990 Volksbank Magdeburg eG . In 1991 customers and employees of DG-Bank Magdeburg were taken over. In 1992 there was a merger with Raiffeisenbank Magdeburg eG and in 1999 with Raiffeisen-Volksbank Schönebeck eG. On the occasion of its 90th anniversary, Volksbank Magdeburg published a chronicle in 2006. For the 100th birthday, the chronicle was expanded in 2016 and published as a bound book.

Her core business areas include the execution of payment transactions, commercial and private financing, financial and asset investments, future provision and the brokerage of cooperative financial services. Volksbank Magdeburg traditionally feels connected to medium-sized companies, since Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken emerged as self-help institutions for medium-sized companies.

Social Commitment

Volksbank Magdeburg is one of the founding members of the Magdeburg city marketing association ProM and has supported the association's activities for the city ever since. The bank was also one of the main sponsors of the reconstruction of the new main organ in Magdeburg Cathedral. She also provided financial support for the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of Magdeburg Cathedral in 2009.

Volksbank Magdeburg promotes sport, culture, social affairs, business and education in its business area through donations and sponsoring. In 2007 she was the first name sponsor for a lecture hall at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. In 2010/2011, all of the bank's managers completed a one-week internship in a social institution in cooperation with the Paritätisches Sachsen-Anhalt and Bodelschwingh-Haus Wolmirstedt under the title “Change of perspective”.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Volksbank Magdeburg has been co-organizer of the annual international youth competition "jugend creativ" of the Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken. Children and adolescents in grades 1–13 are given a field of experimentation for their creativity. Since 2004, the bank has been awarding the “Stars of Sport” once a year.
