history
The three-storey clinker brick building with a high basement, built in 1927 as a vocational school, follows the tradition of reform architecture from the time before the First World War. On the mansard roof sit three roof houses with curved gables. Inside, the original stairs, doors and drinking fountains have been preserved.
The vocational school, founded in 1895, used the building after its completion in 1927; In 1974 she moved into the first construction phase of a new building on the weekly market. From 1988 the Cuxhaven City Library was located in the building and, after its new construction, the adult education center. The building will be extensively renovated in 2019/20 and the adult education center will be temporarily relocated to the alternative Grimmershörnkaserne quarter.
Community College
The adult education center (VHS) has a full-time staff as well as approx. 150 freelance and part-time course instructors who take care of the lessons in the courses and events, mostly in the main building of the VHS and others. a. in the citizen station and in the city library.
