The Cuxhaven City Library is a public library in Cuxhaven , its building is at Kapitän-Alexander-Strasse 1 on Schleusenpriel. The Cuxhaven City Archives are also housed in the building.

history

The library was created in 1907 when Cuxhaven received city rights. In 1908 it was possible to move into separate rooms in the Küver School for the public library on Friedrichstrasse . As early as 1910, an exhibition for the Cuxhaven painter Ernst Gock was documented in the Cuxhaven Book Hall . In 1926 the company moved to the building on Holstenplatz. In 1943 the library was taken over by the city, which had previously been in the hands of the Public Library Association . In 1962 it was renamed the City Library and in 1977 the City Library .

From 1988 it was located in the building of the vocational school at Abendrothstrasse 16. In the 2000s, the two- and three-storey curved new library with the distinctive round entrance area and the open book display over two levels was built on Kapitän-Alexander-Strasse. The adult education center in Cuxhaven moved into the building on Abendrothstrasse. The city archive has also been located in the city library since 2016. At times there were branches in some districts such as B. Döse and Duhnen , which were later closed again.

Furnishing

The city library has over 100,000 media and over 300,000 annual loans as well as over 90,000 visitors and around 230 events per year in the u. a. the event hall. It has media and offers of the areas

Other offers

  • Four PC workstations with color printers and scanners are available for research, as well as free internet access via WLAN.

  • The event hall on the first floor makes the city library a lively meeting place for culture in Cuxhaven and is used for all kinds of events. It offers space for up to 99 people, but can also be used in a smaller version. The equipment includes:

  • Slide projector, overhead projector, beamer, screen
  • Music system and a concert grand

The library has 12 employees, many of them part-time. The library society supports the city library of Cuxhaven, the mobile library of the district of Cuxhaven and the city library of Otterndorf .
