The Volkspark was created in 1898 to protect the water management system in Räcknitz. The park was financed by the King Albert Jubilee Foundation. Viewing platforms were set up on the turrets because the facilities were still open to the public at the time. As a result of the 1936 Reichsgartenschau in Dresden, the Räcknitz park was comprehensively redesigned and redesigned, for example a new network of paths was created. A large main entrance gate on Stadtgutstrasse had to be demolished at the end of the 1970s for structural reasons.
