Basler Gasse elementary school
The elementary school Basler Gasse is located at Basler Gasse No. 43 in the Siebenhirten district in the 23rd Viennese district of Liesing . The old building of the elementary school is a listed building .
history
The primary school of the City of Vienna was built from 1949 to 1951 as a so-called open - air school according to the plans of the architect Roland Rainer . The school building was financed by the city of Basel as part of the Basel helps Vienna-Liesing aid campaign . In the 1970s, the school was expanded to include four free-standing mobile classes. Instead of the mobile classes, an extension was planned in 2012 with the architect Clemens Kirsch and opened in 2014.
architecture
The single-storey foundation building has a high hipped roof. In the auditorium is a mural with a vedute of the city of Basel.
The extension building with a flat roof - connected to the old building with a glazed connecting corridor - consists entirely of prefabricated wooden elements and groups the four classes like a windmill around a central access area. The possibility of an increase was also planned for the extension.
