Al'Leu , actually Alois Josef Leu (born May 26, 1953 in Beinwil (Freiamt) ; † December 5, 2018 ), was a Swiss artist and publisher .

biography

In 1970 and 1971, Al'Leu completed a basic artistic training course at the École abc de dessin et peinture in Paris . From 1972 to 1975 he did an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor with Eugen and Eduard Spörri and Franco Annoni . After further training and a gallery internship, he founded the Edition Leu publishing house in 1978 . From 1981 to 1989 he was a cultural journalist for the Aargauer Anzeiger and Freiämter Woche . From 1993 to 1994 he was President of the Zurich Writers' Association and the Association of Eastern Swiss Authors (ZSV) for the first time. From 1991 to 2017 he held a teaching position as an adult educator at the Migros Club School for figurative and abstract sculpture in Zurich . Since 2011 he has been the green liberal councilor of Opfikon .

Leu regularly exhibited stone paintings and published books on contemporary art and poetry. He was married to the artist Martina Leu. His publishing house Edition LEU focuses on contemporary literature and art catalogs. Since 2010 he has been President of the Zurich Writers' Association again.
