Dörpfeldstrasse 28, the former primary school in Heidt

The former primary school Heidt or also Dörpfeldschule is a historical school building in Wuppertal - Ronsdorf .

Location and description

The former elementary school is located in the southwest of the Ronsdorf district in the Blutfinke residential area near the village of Heidt (old spelling "Heydt") in " Dörpfeldstrasse 28 ".

A first elementary school was built around 1680–1685 in Heidt. Today's former school building was built in 1835 and served as an elementary school from 1835 to 1888, then as a ribbon knitting and residential building until 1960 and exclusively as a residential building since 1960. Between 1933 and 1943 there was also an inn here.

From May to December 1848 the pedagogue Friedrich Wilhelm Dörpfeld , the father of the archaeologist Professor Wilhelm Dörpfeld , worked as a teacher. A bronze plaque attached next to the entrance in 1930 reminds of this .

The building is a single-storey, slated half-timbered house with a built-in gable roof and centrally located mid- sized houses on both sides of the eaves . Today's access is in the middle of the street front. The original access to the only classroom was on the northern gable end and is no longer available today.

Monument protection

Since it is the second school building in Ronsdorf and it was the place of activity of the pedagogue Friedrich Wilhelm Dörpfeld for a few months, the former schoolhouse was placed under monument protection on November 11, 1993 .
