The Volkswagen Leasing GmbH is a 100 percent subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services AG . It takes over the leasing business for new and used cars from the brands of the Volkswagen Group . Volkswagen Leasing GmbH leases individual vehicles or vehicle fleets to private and corporate customers and provides fleet management systems in the field of fleet planning, administration and controlling.

The balance sheet total of Volkswagen Leasing GmbH as of December 31, 2019 was 39.1 billion euros. Volkswagen Leasing has a portfolio of around 1.674 million vehicles and is Europe's largest automobile leasing company. As of December 31, 2019, 1,215 people were working for Volkswagen Leasing GmbH.

Corporate structure

Volkswagen Leasing GmbH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services AG , which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft . The leasing business of the other brands of the Volkswagen Group is covered by the branches Audi Leasing, Seat Leasing, Škoda Leasing, Autoeuropa Leasing and Ducati Leasing. Volkswagen Leasing GmbH is represented internationally through branches in Milan , Verona , Bolzano and Warsaw .

history

Volkswagenwerk AG founded Volkswagen Leasing GmbH on October 18, 1966 . It was entered in the commercial register as the first German car leasing company . The first managing director was Richard Bertold. From May 1, 1977, the company also offered services for private households. Around 400 cars had been leased from private customers by the end of the year. On July 3, 1978, the name was changed to VAG Leasing GmbH . The employees of VAGL and VAG Kredit Bank GmbH (VAGKB) moved together in 1979 to the office building on Gifhorner Strasse in Braunschweig . In 1982 VAG Leasing GmbH and VAG Kredit Bank GmbH moved from Wolfsburg to the administration building of the former Olympia-Werke in Braunschweig.

After the border was opened in March 1990, the VAGKB moved into an office in Chemnitz in order to promote the development of a dealer network in East Germany. At the end of the year, VAGL also opened a branch in Chemnitz. On December 13, 1990, Škoda Leasing was opened as a branch of VAGL in Braunschweig.

As part of the restructuring of the financial services division, VAG Bank GmbH and VAG Leasing GmbH were transferred to the holding company Volkswagen Finanz GmbH in 1992 . The VAG Leasing GmbH was in on 14 December 1994 Volkswagen Leasing GmbH renamed (VWL). On January 13, 1997, Volkswagen Leasing Polska Sp. Z oo was founded in Warsaw .

In 1997, the Volkswagen financial service provider launched the first product on the market, the Premium Light , which combined insurance and leasing services. At the end of 1998, VWL founded a branch in Milan . Volkswagen Leasing Thailand Ltd. was founded in Bangkok in 2000 . based in Bangkok. In 2004 VW Financial Services AG withdrew from Thailand . On 18 September 2006, in Mexico , the Volkswagen SA DE CE founded. 

In 2011, Carmobility GmbH was taken over 100% by Volkswagen Leasing GmbH by the Mahag group trading group. Euromobil Autovermietung GmbH was taken over as a 100% subsidiary of Volkswagen Leasing GmbH on January 1, 2012. Both companies are now 100 percent subsidiaries of Volkswagen Financial Services AG .

Key figures

The contract portfolio in 2019 was 1.674 million units (2018: 1.487 million). Lease assets increased from 27.7 billion euros in 2018 to 32 billion euros in 2019.
