history
After the dissolution of HK Central Kohtla-Järve , Viru Sputnik was founded in 2003 as the successor club of Kohtla-Järve and finished fifth in the Estonian top division in the following year . From 2005 to 2007, the team came in fifth three times in a row. In the 2009 game year, the team came second behind the champions HK Stars . In 2010 the club won the Estonian championship for the first time.
Furthermore, the club participated in the 2010/11 season at the discharge of the IIHF Continental Cup in part and entered the competition in the second round. In this, the team recorded two wins and one defeat against KS Cracovia Krakau , Tilburg Trappers and CH Jaca . As a result, the team missed out on the next round as a team classified in second place.
