Pre-Alpine Marathon

Start of the pre-alpine marathon 2005

The pre-alpine marathon in Kempten was a marathon that took place in September from 2003 to 2013. The demanding and hilly route led through the typical alpine landscape of the Allgäu .

Until 2005, the route was 42.2 km long, and +/- 1300 meters in altitude had to be overcome. In 2006 the route was extended to 45.3 km total running distance with 1400 meters of altitude due to the organization of the German championship in cross and landscape running of the German Ultramarathon Association . Due to the positive feedback, this route will be retained, which means that the pre-alpine marathon is now, strictly speaking, an ultra marathon .

In addition to the 45.3 km route, a 2/3 marathon, a relay marathon and walking events were offered.

Route

On the ridge of the Blender at the Pre-Alpine Marathon 2005

The route of the pre-alpine marathon started in Kempten. The runners reached Wiggensbach on a hilly route . Behind that, the most difficult ascent of the route was the ascent of the Blender . Then you walked through Eschach and past the beautiful Eschacher Weiher. Now it went on a ridge to the turning point at Wenger Egg and then back on an undulating course a little below and south of the way there to the Eschacher Weiher. From there it went via Buchenberg and Mariaberg, where there was another steep ascent on the last few kilometers, back to the start in Kempten.
