The Vorarlberg Tourism GmbH is a Vorarlberg provincial organization with the tasks development of tourism in Vorarlberg. The company was founded in 2008 by the state of Vorarlberg and the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce and emerged from the Vorarlberg Tourism Regional Association.

The purpose of the company is the further development of tourism in Vorarlberg, in particular marketing work for the holiday region of Vorarlberg. The main thrust of the market development is the "internationalization of the guest structure" as well as the "increase of regional added value through profiled offer design".

history

The forerunner organization of Vorarlberg Tourismus GmbH, the regional association for tourism, was founded on November 5, 1893 in Dornbirn. The advertising measures included summer brochures, posters and advertising. In 1902, the newly introduced statistics recorded 48,649 arrivals. The first ski lift in the Alps was put into operation at Bödele in 1907, and in 1923 a winter brochure was drawn up and radio advertising was placed. The first tourism film followed in 1945.

The first Vorarlberg Tourism Act was passed in 1966 and market research with nationwide guest surveys was carried out ten years later. From 1982, there were more overnight stays in winter than in summer.

In 1998, Vorarlberg was the first country in the Alps to introduce nationwide destination management. The “Vorarlberg Tourismus Ges.mbH” was founded and the regional association was dissolved in 2008. In 2012, the company developed the 2020 tourism strategy together with the state of Vorarlberg and the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce.

The shareholders of Vorarlberg Tourismus GmbH are the State of Vorarlberg (75%) and the Vorarlberg Chamber of Commerce (25%). The company employs 21 people. The management of Vorarlberg Tourismus GmbH is currently with Christian Schützinger, the chairman of the supervisory board is state governor Karlheinz Rüdisser . The “ARGE of Managing Directors Vorarlberg Tourism and Destinations” and the “ARGE Market Processing in the Network” are set up as advisory bodies.

Vorarlberg is divided into six tourist regions:

  • Bregenzerwald
  • Kleinwalsertal
  • Lech Zürs
  • Montafon
