Naming

The Vorarlberger Damm, named on March 17, 1939, takes its name from the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . On the first anniversary, the street names in this area referred to the “ Anschluss of Austria ”.

Development

The Vorarlberger Damm forms the connection between the busy Sachsendamm and the entrance to the Schöneberg motorway junction at the height of the Grazer Damm . In the north-eastern area it is characterized by the dominant furniture store Höffner on Sachsendamm and then (southwest of the bridge over the city motorway ) by the home of 1. FC Schöneberg , which can accommodate around 1000 spectators, and a spacious sports facility of the Berlin Gymnastics Association.

In the further course on both sides of the street there are allotment garden colonies of the Schöneberg southern area , which form one of the largest contiguous allotment garden areas in Berlin.

The street in the area between Riemenschneiderweg / Nordmannzeile and Rubensstraße has a closed residential development, of which several houses in the street belong to the listed "Siedlung am Grazer Damm".

Others

Plan of the site of the German Army, Military and Colonial Exhibition in 1907

In 1907, a five-month trade exhibition took place on the then undeveloped site between Grazer Damm and Rubensstrasse. "Wild Africa" and "American war games" were presented at the German Army, Military and Colonial Exhibition . At the same time, companies presented their products from military accessories as well as everyday accessories suitable for tropical and colonial times. The location was chosen because of its close proximity to the large barracks on General-Pape-Strasse and Tempelhofer Feld , where the imperial troops held their parades .

On the northern side of the Vorarlberger Damm there are two boulders, which are natural monuments of the city of Berlin (see also: List of natural monuments in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district ).
