Pre-war youth (VKJ) was a German hardcore punk band from the 1980s from Berlin-Kreuzberg . The band existed from 1982 to 1985 and from 1998 to 1999, with drummer Jürgen Heiland being the only remaining original member.

history

Pre-war youth was founded in 1982 by Michael Weindl, Klaus Hicker, Jürgen Heiland and Didi. Later Didi was replaced by Bomber and in 1983 the EP Today Fun, Tomorrow Death was recorded in this line-up . After this, Bomber was replaced by Thomas "Heschel" Rickert and Sepp Ehrensberger joined the band as a new guitarist. In 1984 the LP pre-war youth was recorded. In the fall of this year the band finally broke up, as Sepp and Heiland meanwhile also worked with Destroyed Youth . Some members later played in other Berlin bands such as Jingo de Lunch and Vellocet . In 1998 there was a short reunion, in which only the drummer participated. The EP Resistance to the Teutonic Country emerged from this project . The rehearsal room was in the backyard of SO 36 in 1983/1984.

influence

Pre-war youth had a great influence on German punk rock . This is shown, among other things, by the fact that they have been covered by many punk bands. The Coburg hardcore band Rawside released the EP VKJ in 1996 , which only contains cover songs by pre-war youth. Numerous punk and hardcore bands covered the song Vaterland .

Others

Klaus Michael Hicker, originally from Munich, who lived in Chiang Mai (Thailand) for 20 years, was arrested there by the local police on January 7, 2013 on suspicion of having sexually abused young boys and for human trafficking .
