The Vulkanstrasse describes the Duisburg red light district . There are a number of brothels there , including whorehouses .
The brothels around Vulkanstrasse had a total of 432 rooms in mid-2013. According to an estimate by Express, the operators achieve a seven-figure profit per month.
On October 31, 2009 there were massive clashes between the Bandidos and the Hells Angels in the Vulkanstrasse . The local police had to use the riot police for reinforcement. While the Bandidos controlled the Ruhr area , the Hells Angels claimed the Rhineland for themselves; interests overlapped in Duisburg. Other competitors include Satudarah .
Closing the Vulkanstrasse is out of the question, as this would be equivalent to a professional ban in court and would not be accepted, according to the city administration. Among other things, the construction of another brothel on Vulkanstrasse was approved by the district council in 2011 .
In 2012, legal disputes began because of the brothel tax introduced by Duisburg. The city expected an annual income of 500,000 euros.
In 2013, the Greens and Left in the Duisburg city council called for an advice center for prostitutes .
