Vysoká hole

The Vysoká hole ( German  Hohe Heide ) is at 1465 m the second highest mountain of the Hohe Jeseník ( Hrubý Jeseník ) and the second highest mountain in Moravian Silesia . In the summit area there is a refuge and a sandstone boundary stone from 1681, which marks the historical border between Moravia and Silesia .

topography

The Hohe Heide and the Peterstein ( Petrovy Kameny ) form a double peak. Traces of ice age glaciation can be found on the eastern slope of the Hohe Heide . The big boiler ( Velký Kotel ) is located on the southern slope of the Hohe Heide above the boiler meadow. The neighboring mountain of the Hohe Heide in the east is the Schwarzhübel ( Temná ). To the southeast, a ridge extends over the Heiligenhübl to the Great Maiberg ( Velký Máj ). Bear water ( Medvědí důl ) rises in the west below the Hohe Heide . A ridge stretches to the west with the peaks Large Seeberg ( Velká Jezerná ) and Small Seeberg ( Malá jezerná ) over to Brünlberg ( Mravenečník ).

history

In the years from 1919 to 1922, artillery exercises by the Czechoslovak army took place there, after which several hundred craters remained on the southern slope.

In the years from 1943 to 1944, the Todt Organization built a Würzburg- type radar base, code-named Nebelhorn, on the mountain. The radar had a range of 75 km and was a major threat to US bombers. The only remnant of the system is one of the concrete bases for the radar.

On February 27, 1950 a Douglas DC-3 of Czechoslovak Airlines, registration OK-WDY, crashed on the Hohe Heide.
