The Waray Wikipedia is the language version of Wikipedia in Waray , a language of the Philippines is spoken. In 2013, the number of articles more than tripled with the help of bots . In the summer of 2014, it exceeded a million articles.

history

The language version of Wikipedia was founded on September 25 , 2005 .

With the Lsjbot developed by Sverker Johansson , Wáray-Wáray-Wikipedia reached the 100,000 article mark on August 26, 2010, making it the 35th largest language version of Wikipedia. At the time, it was more than twice the size of the Tagalog language version of Wikipedia (Tagalog is the most widely used language in the Philippines). The average number of edits per article is (2014) 2.27, while it is 7.50 for Tagalog-Wikipedia.

With more than 1.25 million articles (as of April 2017) the Wáray-Wáray-Wikipedia only has 88 active registered users (as of August 2014). This is an extreme ratio compared to, for example, the German language Wikipedia , which has around 2.05 million articles and around 20,000 active registered users. Only about a fifth of the page impressions come from the Philippines.

The Waray Wikipedia, ahead of the Japanese-language Wikipedia , but after the mostly offered generated cebuanosprachigen Wikipedia, the second largest language version of Wikipedia in the Asia-Pacific region. However, especially recently created articles often have less than 200 bytes of content, and some articles are just spam . Maintenance deemed inadequate leads to mass creation of small items. Many articles resemble dictionary entries. Most of the articles on the Wáray-Wáray-Wikipedia have been generated by bot since 2013. These bot articles are short articles about biological lemmas or taxa ; they amount to about 88% of all created articles. In June 2014, Wáray-Wáray-Wikipedia became the first Asian-language Wikipedia to cross the one million article mark.
