- Augsburg / Germany : The former Secretary of State for Armaments, Holger Pfahls , who was convicted of tax evasion among other things , is released after serving half of his prison sentence of two years and three months.
- Baghdad / Iraq : The US Air Force attacks a suspected Al Qaeda position in the Iraqi border area with Syria . According to a report, F-18 fighter planes had fired at a train station in Husaiba , where around 50 suspected al-Qaida fighters were seen bunkering weapons. Initially, nothing was known about the number of those killed. As recently as Tuesday, 56 people were killed in air strikes on Islamist extremists in the same region.
- New Orleans / United States : In an initial inventory of the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina , which hit the Gulf Coast at around 200 km / h three days ago , 80% of the urban area of New Orleans is identified as affected. The water stands up to six feet high, and authorities estimate that there are at least a thousand deaths.

- Washington, DC / United States : US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has come under fire for her behavior during the ongoing flood disaster in the southern United States. Like US President George W. Bush , Rice stayed on vacation despite the flood. “While the South is drowning, Rice is relaxing in New York,” headlines the tabloid “Daily News”.

The discussion will be broadcast live by several broadcasters. Schröder sees the immediate opinion polls as a slight advantage.
- Bonn / Germany : Due to a joint brochure by Klaus Zumwinkel (head of Deutsche Post World Net ) and Prof. Klaus F. Zimmermann (President DIW Berlin ) on necessary political reforms in Germany, the ver.di union of Deutsche Post is threatening a strike. Zumwinkel and Zimmermann are calling for the abolition of minimum wages and, indirectly, strong restrictions on the unions.
- New Orleans / United States : For a few hours, music, costumes and confetti are making their way into the US jazz and party metropolis: Some steadfast people celebrate the annual gay parade "Southern Decadence" in the deserted but now dry streets of the French Quarter. . The candidates for chancellor are Angela Merkel (CDU / CSU) and Gerhard Schröder (SPD). Neither the Union / FDP nor the SPD / Greens have a majority, but all parliamentary parties are ruling out a coalition with the PDS. Merkel as well as Schröder declare that they are election winners and future Federal Chancellor , and Guido Westerwelle (FDP) rejects a coalition made up of the SPD / Greens / FDP .
