  • Istanbul / Turkey : According to police, six people were injured in the explosion of two bombs in the Turkish holiday resort of Antalya . The bombs exploded in trash cans in the city center.
  • Mumbai / India : Up to a thousand people drowned or were possibly killed in other related accidents (electric shocks, landslides) in the Indian city of Mumbai (former name: Bombay) and in the state of Maharashtra , the Indian authorities fear. The economic damage caused by the heavy rainfall and the resulting flooding in the Mumbai region is estimated at up to 30 billion rupees (approx. 526 million euros).
  • Toronto / Canada : In Toronto, an Air-France aircraft of the type Airbus A340 shot over the runway during landing and went up in flames. According to Air France, there are no deaths among the 298 passengers and 12 crew members and 42 mostly only slightly injured. The police expected rallies from angry Muslims after Friday prayers. The Arab population of Israel went on a general strike to protest the incident on Thursday. (According to AFP reports)

  • Helsinki / Finland : The 10th World Athletics Championships begin in Helsinki .
  • Munich / Germany : An apparently insane person runs amok in a Munich bus and stabs eight people with a knife, three of whom are in mortal danger. He also injured two other people at a bus stop. When he was questioned by the police, the heavily drunk man looked very confused; for example, he speaks of "saints" who would influence his behavior.

  • Jerusalem / Israel : The Gaza withdrawal is currently suspended because of the Sabbath .
