- Addis Ababa / Ethiopia : In the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, six people die in unrest and 36 others are injured. The opposition called for protests against the result of the parliamentary elections.
- Berlin / Germany : Negotiations to form a grand coalition falter due to the resignation of the SPD - chairman Franz Muentefering and the decision of Edmund Stoiber ( CSU ) to the office of Minister of Economic Affairs to waive. - Nuremberg / Germany : The number of unemployed in Germany fell to 4.556 million in October. The unemployment rate fell by 0.2 points to 11.0% and fell more sharply than expected year-on-year.
- Pakistan : 73,276 people died in the severe earthquake in Pakistan three and a half weeks ago. This is the number reported by the head of rescue operations in Islamabad . - Ethiopia : The situation in the East African state is getting worse. For the third day in a row, violent clashes between demonstrators and security forces have broken out. The unrest is directed against alleged electoral fraud committed by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's government in the parliamentary elections in May. The opposition coalition for democracy and unity (Qinijit) had called for the demonstrations . Dozens of people have already died. In the meantime, tensions are escalating on the Ethiopian- Eritrean border, where the two states had fought a bitter war for two years until 2000 . According to UN observers, they are currently gathering troops, tanks and other heavy weapons. UN Secretary General Kofi Annan therefore called for great caution, because every act could be misunderstood. The Austrian Foreign Ministry has also commented on the incidents and issued a travel warning .
- Ramallah / Palestinian Territories : Israeli soldiers killed a twelve-year-old boy with sharp shots at protesting Palestinian youths. The French police said that around 900 cars were set on fire nationwide and 253 people were arrested. During the night there were also riots in other parts of the country for the first time , such as in the suburbs of Dijon , Rouen and Marseille . The conservative government accuse regional politicians, not sufficient to continue expanding daily violence to respond.

Representatives of the major agricultural exporters India and Brazil indicated on Monday in London that the goals set at the WTO summit in Hong Kong would not be achieved and that a “Hong Kong II” would soon be needed. According to EU Trade Commissioner Mandelson, on the other hand, “ indifference is drawn as soon as expectations are reduced”. - Annapolis / United States : The White House publishes a study on the politico-military strategy in Iraq . In a speech given to the Annapolis Naval Academy , President Bush summarized that in the current crisis there would be no withdrawal from the country without a victory for democracy . Bush demands patience from the public and believes that a specific timetable for troop reduction is premature. Reports from Iraq confirmed that the establishment of the country's internal security forces is proceeding rapidly. In the 38-page document “Our National Strategy…” it translates as follows: Victory will be achieved with determination, but not until a certain point in time. The plan is based on three basic lines - the political line, the security policy and the economic aid . It is important to defeat the terrorists and neutralize the uprising. One must help Iraq to strengthen its economy and increase international aid for the country.
- Baghdad / Iraq : The Iraqi government considers the withdrawal of up to 30,000 US soldiers to be possible in early 2006 . Their tasks could be taken over by Iraqi security forces, said the government's national security advisor , Mowaffak al-Rubaie .
