Representatives of the major agricultural exporters India and Brazil indicated on Monday in London that the goals set at the WTO summit in Hong Kong would not be achieved and that a “Hong Kong II” would soon be needed. According to EU Trade Commissioner Mandelson, on the other hand, “ indifference is drawn as soon as expectations are reduced”. When it comes to the main point of contention , agricultural subsidies , the USA and other EU countries accuse the EU of sealing off their agricultural markets too much. The concessions to dismantle agricultural tariffs and subsidies do not go far enough for them.

  • Annapolis / United States : The White House publishes a study on the politico-military strategy in Iraq . In a speech given to the Annapolis Naval Academy , President Bush summarized that in the current crisis there would be no withdrawal from the country without a victory for democracy . Bush demands patience from the public and believes that a specific timetable for troop reduction is premature. Reports from Iraq confirmed that the establishment of the country's internal security forces is proceeding rapidly. In the 38-page document “Our National Strategy…” it translates as follows: Victory will be achieved with determination, but not until a certain point in time. The plan is based on three basic lines - the political line, the security policy and the economic aid . It is important to defeat the terrorists and neutralize the uprising. One must help Iraq to strengthen its economy and increase international aid for the country.
  • Baghdad / Iraq : The Iraqi government considers the withdrawal of up to 30,000 US soldiers to be possible in early 2006 . Their tasks could be taken over by Iraqi security forces, said the government's national security advisor , Mowaffak al-Rubaie . A withdrawal of all US soldiers is not conceivable before the end of 2007. 159,000 American soldiers are currently deployed, 21,000 more than in the summer. So far, 2,110 US soldiers have been killed in Iraq. The US Defense Department wants the troops standings after the elections from December 15 to take back to the level of the summer.
  • Jerusalem / Israel : Former Prime Minister Shimon Peres announced his resignation from Die Arbeit , in which he lost his office as party leader to Amir Peretz on November 9 , and came out as a supporter of his former rival Ariel Sharon on November 24 founded forward party , which positions itself in the middle of the political spectrum. In various surveys, Vorwärts is already doing better than the electoral alliance, the union , which the majority rejects Israeli peace diplomacy. Peres is convinced that Sharon seeks an understanding between Israelis and Palestinians .
  • United States : The military strategists Andrew Terrill and Conrad Crane (Historical Institute of the Armed Forces) speak out against the submission of a withdrawal schedule despite criticism of the actions of the USA in Iraq, because it means more dangers than good for Iraq.
