The Bild am Sonntag (Bild am Sonntag) is a Sunday in Nordic tabloid published German tabloid . It is part of the picture group of Axel Springer SE and is one of the most cited media in Germany. The sold circulation is 659,496 copies, a decrease of 73.2 percent since 1998.

history

As a forerunner, a Sunday edition of the Hamburger Abendblatt was published from 1948 to 1955 as a competition measure against the Hamburger Fremdblatt .

While the newspaper initially only appeared in Hamburg, the publisher decided in 1955, due to the unsatisfactory development of the circulation to date, to expand the distribution area to the whole of Germany on a trial basis. A year later the newspaper was given into the hands of the Bild editors and converted into a Sunday Sunday edition, whereupon the first edition of the newspaper appeared on April 29, 1956.

In September 2019, the merging of the editorial teams of Bild and Bild am Sonntag was announced.

Edition

Like the Bild newspaper , the paper is one of the German newspapers with the greatest loss of circulation in recent years. The circulation sold has fallen by an average of 7.8% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 8.8%. It is currently 659,496 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 6.49 percent.

Development of the number of copies sold

The newspaper is mainly consumed by male readers (72 percent) between the ages of 50 and over 70 and a household income between € 1000 and € 3000.

criticism

The newspaper has been repeatedly penalized by the German Press Council with its severest sanction, the complaint , for violations of the press code :

  • 1992: Violation of Section 9 (protection of honor)
  • 2010: Violation of Section 8 (protection of personality)
  • 2014: Violations of section 1 (truthfulness and respect for human dignity), section 10 (religion, belief, custom) and section 12 (discrimination)
  • 2016: Violation of Section 8 (protection of personality)

The tabloid published an out of context headline in 2002 entitled Peter Lustig - I Don't Like Children ; The reason for this misunderstanding was an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung , in which he described how exhausting it is to work with children in front of the camera - especially for them it is “tormenting”. He takes young people as they are: “Sure, children are annoying and sticky, so what? They know that themselves. ”The ironic undertone was suppressed in the following reports; the interviewer Kai Biermann described the interpretation by other media as "twisted" and "bent".

In 2019, the watch blog Bildblog criticized the “BILD Group Publishing Management” wanting to “pimp up ” the Wikipedia article on Bild am Sonntag : An account verified by the Axel Springer SE publishing group tried to add critical sentences and a graphic on the circulation development from the article Delete to add positive sounding PR passages at the same time . The media magazine of the NDR, " Zapp " reported on this process. In a press release, the Springer press office did not deny that changes were made to the article.
