Walter Mayer (journalist)

Walter Mayer (born April 8, 1959 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian journalist based in Germany .

Life

Mayer comes from a family of bakers and trained as a bookseller. From 1990 to 1992 Mayer was deputy editor-in-chief of the Illustrierte Bunte . From 1992 he was editor-in-chief of the city magazine Prinz in Jahreszeiten-Verlag, from 1994 he was also editor-in-chief of Tempo magazine . When Tempo was discontinued in April 1996, he left the Jahreszeiten Verlag. In September 1998 Mayer became deputy to the then editor-in-chief Franz Josef Wagner at the Berlin daily BZ. 2001 he switched to the same function at the Bildzeitung . In 2004 he returned to the BZ as editor-in-chief. From June 2008 to October 2013 he was editor-in-chief of Bild am Sonntag . In 2014 Mayer developed "Book Affair", an Internet portal that was intended to strengthen the local book trade as an alternative to Amazon. Since 2016 he has acted as a consultant to the editor-in-chief of Focus magazine . His book Bread was published in September 2017 . In search of the scent of life in Insel-Verlag. Mayer lives in Berlin and Marrakech.
