Marion Horn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marion Horn (born December 28, 1965 in Kiel ) is a German journalist . From October 2013 to November 2019 she was editor-in-chief of Bild am Sonntag .

Life

Horn began her career as a 19-year-old with a three-year traineeship at the W&W publishing house in Hamburg (which occasionally published the St. Pauli-Nachrichten ) and then worked as a freelance journalist. From 1989 on, she was head of the service department at Bild der Frau (Axel Springer Verlag).

In 1992 she quit there, went to Bauer-Verlag as a freelancer in the development department, and in the same year, when she was the youngest editor-in-chief in Germany at the time, she was given responsibility for the erotic magazine Das neue Wochenend , which, however, after a print run of millions in the 1970s faced a rapid decline in readers. In 1996 she moved to the same position at the TV program magazine tv Hören &sehen, which was also produced by Bauer .

In mid-1998, Horn took over Mathias Döpfner as editor-in-chief of Hamburger Morgenpost , which at that time still belonged to the Gruner + Jahr publishing house .

In 2000 she returned to the Axel Springer Verlag and initially developed the new women's magazine Fritz for them . In January 2001 she became a member of the editor-in-chief of Bild , until March 2007 she was deputy editor-in-chief of the complete edition and editor-in-chief of the regional edition of Bild Hamburg , most recently responsible for all 23 regional offices. From September 2012 on, she represented, alternating weekly with Alfred Draxler , the Bild editor-in-chief Kai Diekmann during his long study visit to the United States of America.

In October 2013 she was appointed editor-in-chief of Bild am Sonntag as the first woman in the history of the paper , and thus successor to Walter Mayer . Under her leadership, the Sunday newspaper was restructured and moved away from rowdy tones. This led to increased invitations to the ARD press club and various talk shows. At the LeadAward 2018 she was the top winner in the "National Newspaper" category. The jury justified this by saying that they had “brought a new tone to the boulevard and made the Bams a relevant, serious newspaper”.

On November 12, 2019, Axel Springer SE announced that Horn was leaving the company. Horn justified her departure with the planned merger of the editorial offices of Bild and Bild am Sonntag.

Honorary positions

Marion Horn volunteered for the Ein Herz für Kinder association for ten years , most recently as chairwoman, and is still a board member of the foundation of the same name. She has also been a member of the jury for the Axel Springer Prize for young journalists since 2014 .

Private

She is the mother of two daughters and lives in Berlin.
