al-Sharif al-Murtadā

al-Sharif al-Murtadā ( Arabic الشريف المرتضى, DMG aš-Šarīf al-Murtaḍā ; born 965 or 966 (?); died 1044 ) was a Twelve Shiite legal scholar ( faqih ) and Koran commentator in the 11th century at the time of the Buyids . His honorary title was ' Alam al-Hudā .

He was born into a scholarly family and is the older brother of Sharif Radhi , who compiled the Nahj al-Balāgha . After his death he served as chairman ( naqīb ) of the Aliden in Baghdad . He was a student of Sheikh Mufid , had studied with several Muʿtazilite authorities and was a follower of the Kalām .

Works

Ash-Sharīf al-Murtadā is the author of numerous writings on Kalām , Fiqh , Usūl al-fiqh , grammar , poetry and other areas of knowledge. His works include:

  • Ġurar al-fawāʾid wa-durar al-qalāʾid bi-l-muḥāḍarāt , Adab manual, which is his main work, completed on August 14, 1022.
  • aš-Šāfī fī l-imāma , defense of the Twelve Shiite Imamate doctrine against al-Muġnī by ʿAbd al-Jabbār ibn Ahmad .
  • aḏ-Ḏarīʿa ilā uṣūl aš-šarīʿa
  • al-Intiṣār on the differences between the various Shiite groups and other disciplines
  • Tanzīh al-Anbiyāʾ
  • al-Fuṣūl al-muḫtāra , excerpt from the work al-ʿUyūn wa-l-maḥāsin of his teacher al-Sheikh al-Mufīd ( digital copy of the print edition 1413h ).
